Course Description

Welcome to the Certified Swine Sample Collector Trainer Training online course!   This course is jointly sponsored by the Missouri Department of Agriculture and MU Extension. In this course, you will learn about Foreign Animal Diseases affecting swine, biosecurity basics, the Secure Pork Supply Plan, and the Certified Swine Sample Collector program.  This course is self-paced and entirely online. It should take approximately 1 hour to finish.   You can leave and return at any time.  At the end of the modules, you will earn 1 CE hour and a certificate of training. 

  Course Organization

Throughout this course you will encounter 3 modules.  Each module may include

• Audio/Video presentation
• Written explanation of the A/V presentation
• Quizzes to check understanding of the material

By the end of the course, you will

• Know about African Swine Fever and its threat to US pork supply
• Know about the benefit of Secure Pork Supply Plans
• Understand the program standards of the Certified Swine Sample Collector training
• Know how to access training information and curriculum for Certified Swine Sample Collector Training

The purpose of the discussions is to give you a location to ask questions that can be answered for the group of Certified Swine Sample Collector Trainers in the state of Missouri. Discussions are not a specifically required portion of this class, however, utilizing the discussion will allow for questions to be posed openly.

We acknowledge that everyone's contribution will be unique and particular to their context and experiences. Therefore, we expect and welcome a diversity of contributions and viewpoints. We hope that everyone will bring to the course a posture of curiosity, interest in listening, and willingness to share.

We also expect that participants will bring different prior experiences, interests, and motivations to this course and how the discussions unfold will reflect this range.

  Netiquette

For a successful online course experience, clear, thoughtful communication is essential. Discussion forums and course communications are important venues for exchanging ideas and promoting learning. Your instructor and fellow participants wish to foster a safe and inclusive online learning environment. Constructive criticism and questions are encouraged; however, you will be expected to remain professional and courteous in all of your posts. You are encouraged to comment, question or critique an idea, but you are not to attack an individual.

 Assessment and Grading

This course is not graded.  Completion of the quizzes and final test will show mastery of the Training program and allow participants to train Certified Swine Sampler Collectors.

  Course Completion

Completion of the course is largely reliant on passing the quizzes at the end of the module.  Each module has a short presentation outlining the takeaway information for this section.  After the presentation, you have access to the quiz.  Passing the quiz with 90% or higher will open the following module.  If you do not pass the quiz, you can go back through the module and try again.

At the end of the course, there is one final exam which includes information from each section.  Passing this test will allow you access to the certificate of training, CE hours, and the ability to train Certified Swine Sample Collectors.  This training is good for 2 years, after which you will need to recertify.
