Private pesticide applicator remote training

In response to COVID-19, no group or in-person training events are available through MU extension until further notice. This means private applicators are no longer able to attend training events or to visit their extension office for immediate video training. We have worked with the Missouri Department of Agriculture and the Environmental Protection Agency to provide private applicators with the two remote options outlined below for license certification/recertification. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate through these unprecedented times to provide service. Hopefully these new remote learning options will not present a great inconvenience, and will provide the education and outreach expected from our pesticide applicator training program.

1. Zoom teleconference: Field agronomy specialists will transition their planned in-person training events to an online format using a free-to-use Zoom video teleconferencing platform. This platform accommodates audio with computer speakers or through a call-in phone number, and online video streaming. The MDA and EPA have agreed to this format on the condition that we diligently identify the attendee(s). To do this, 1) the attendee should register via online using the MU Extension website, giving his or her email and mailing address, and 2) the attendee should confirm that email in the Chat box during the event. After the Zoom meeting, the specialist will mail the Private Applicator Training Certification Verification form to the applicator. The applicator needs to fill out the form, sign in ink, and mail, (or scan and email), the form back to the county office. The specialist will then sign the form and forward it to the MDA for processing. There is no charge for this service.

2. Mail option: Alternatively, applicators will have the option to certify or recertify by mail. To do this, applicators need to obtain a copy of the Private Pesticide Applicator Reference Manual and request (email, phone, letter) a study guide from the nearest field specialist. If the applicator already has a manual, the field specialist will send them the study guide. The applicator will review the manual, answer the study guide questions, and mail the completed study guide back to the extension field specialist. The specialist will review the study guide and return it to the applicator along with the verification form. The applicator will complete the verification form, sign it in ink, and return it to the extension field specialist. The specialist will sign the verification form and then send it to the Missouri Department of Agriculture for processing.

Any questions regarding these new options should be submitted to the field specialist in your county.
