Building Strong Families
A research-based educational program that can help you and your family identify and build on your strengths, face challenges and make informed choices.
The goal of this program is to strengthen the family unit based on research showing family members can make significant changes in their behavior by focusing on strengths rather than problems.
Sessions will be held on the first Tuesday and third Wednesday of every month from 6:00-7:30 p.m. Sessions are fun, informative and interactive. Refreshments and free childcare will be provided!
For more information, see the 2019 BSF flyer or call 573-882-2428.
English Language Classes
The Columbia Area Career Center’s Adult Learning Center (ALC) provides many activities to support non-native English speakers in improving their English language skills.
Not only does the ALC help individuals in preparing for and securing employment, but it also provides information about and referrals to community resources. The ALC promotes American citizenship through civics and language instruction, and it offers a healthy, encouraging and friendly environment to foster esteem in learning at the beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.
Some things we do:
- ELL instruction for non-native English speakers
- Community resource information through topical workshops and field trips/community outings
- Teach workplace skills
English classes are offered at 8:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m., 11:45 a.m., or 6:00 p.m. for all levels of ELL students. To enroll, you must attend the first day of orientation and then you will be assigned to the second or third day of orientation. For more information and to enroll in an orientation session, visit the Columbia Area Career Center website.
