Stephen Jeanetta is a State Extension Specialist for Community Development Process and Associate Extension Professor for the MU Community Development Program. He serves as coordinator for the Community Development Academy and provides leadership to programs in Organizational Development and Nonprofit Management, Community and Economic Planning and Building Inclusive Communities.

Jeanetta has worked as a community development specialist with the University of Missouri since December of 1992. His mix of experience includes two years in the rural area of Ste. Genevieve County, Missouri, and then five years in the urban areas of St. Louis County and the City of St. Louis before moving to campus in 1998.  He has extensive experience in working with communities and organizations in designing and facilitating planning and public participation processes including the development of statewide planning process for the Missouri Soil and Water Districts Commission, land use plans for small and medium sized communities and strategic plans for agencies and nonprofits. He is currently facilitating a planning process for the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services that will set a statewide agenda for governmental public health agencies.

Jeanetta’s research has focused on understanding the dynamics affecting community change. He recently completed an eight-year project that included two studies.  Asset Accumulations Strategies in 3 Rural Missouri Communities looked at explored the experiences of Latinos immigrants as they establish themselves in rural Missouri communities and Immigrant Integration and Sustainable Rural Development explored community integration from both the Latino immigrant perspective and that of the receiving community. His most recent project will work with Latino Agricultural Entrepreneurs to develop a entrepreneurial readiness scale that resource providers can use to help determine the kind of support Latino Agricultural Entrepreneurs need to grow their agriculture enterprises. In addition he has several projects aimed at understanding the dynamics affecting how immigrants access health care resources

Jeanetta has been serving as the interim director of the Cambio Center since January 2015. He is also a member of the International Community Development Society where he currently serves as the Treasurer and he is a founding Director of Nonprofit Missouri where he serves as the secretary. Dr. Jeanetta has a Ph.D. in Adult Education from the University of Missouri—St. Louis and an Masters Degree in Community and Regional Planning from the University of Nebraska—Lincoln.
