I provide leadership to the University of Missouri Nursing Outreach (MUNO) program, the educational outreach arm of the MU Sinclair School of Nursing and the Nursing Extension unit of MU Extension/Engagement. Our outstanding team is relatively small (4.5 FTE) but highly productive. We provide educational programs to practicing professional nurses and other health care providers throughout Missouri and surrounding states. I serve as the Primary Nurse Planner on various organizing committees to plan, implement and evaluate professional development activities which award continuing education credit to mostly nurses but also social workers, nursing home administrators, pharmacists and psychologists.
Much of my time is spent in writing and administering grants and contracts to ensure successful completion of the scope of work and required deliverables. I collaborate with a number of stakeholders with whom we partner to provide educational opportunities to an interdisciplinary audience of health care professionals. Our ultimate goal is to improve the quality of health care and health care delivery in Missouri based on practice-related changes participants apply in their own work settings as a result of participating in MUNO's educational programs.
I have been in university-based continuing nursing education since 1984 where I administer the University of Missouri Nursing Outreach (MUNO) program, the educational outreach arm of the MU Sinclair School of Nursing and the Nursing Extension unit of MU Extension/Engagement. MUNO received continuing approval with distinction from the Midwest Multistate Division as a provider of continuing education for another three years (through 2019). I have served as Project Director for numerous continuing education and work force-related grants and contracts from federal and state governments, totaling over $3.5 million. I have 15 publications related to nursing continuing education, adult education, and nursing management and 29 abstracts accepted for presentation at national conferences, all of which were continuing education related. I have also served as a reviewer for Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing and have held continual board certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) as a CE nursing professional since it was first available in 1992.
