Research shows benefits of strength training for older adults

COLUMBIA, Mo. – A new study from the University of Missouri proves working out isn’t just for young people. In this video from MU Health, see how strength training can benefit older adults and even reduce the risk of falls.

Researchers studied participants in MU Extension’s Stay Strong, Stay Healthy program. SSSH aims to provide older adults with access to a safe, structured and effective exercise program capable of building muscle and increasing bone density, thus decreasing frailty, osteoporosis and the risk of falls.

The study was recently featured by television stations KRCG and KTVO.
